Dr. Southan is an expert in free radical biochemistry and medicinal chemistry and a leader in small molecule drug discovery in the areas of inflammation and cell injury. Dr. Southan received his training in biochemistry and organic chemistry at the William Harvey Research Institute under the Nobel Laureate Sir John R. Vane, FRS. He also has served at the National Cancer Institute in the laboratory of Larry Keefer, leading the development of novel nitric oxide releasing adducts.
Dr. Southan is the author of more than 100 scientific publications and invited book chapters and reviews. Dr. Southan joined Inotek as a founding member and played an instrumental role in its gradual transition from a start-up entity to its current stage. Under his leadership, Inotek has developed numerous novel small molecule candidates now in clinical or late pre-clinical studies.
